Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has spoken about the ongoing student and youth protest in Jharkhand, saying governments must listen to students’ voices.
The agitation has been continuing since July 25 at the Jaipal Singh Munda stadium in Ranchi. Protesters have alleged irregularities in examinations conducted for recruitment by the state staff selection commission and other appointments in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha–Congress-ruled state.
Rahul had earlier criticised the Union government over student protests in Delhi, but had not commented on the Jharkhand agitation, drawing criticism from the BJP.
He addressed the issue during an Instagram interaction with students from various states, responding to a question on the Jharkhand protest. Rahul said students across the country are protesting against the education system and reiterated that it has become unaffordable and oppressive.
He added that whether it is the central government or state governments—including Jharkhand or Congress-run administrations—authorities should hear students and take steps to bring changes in the education system.
