Sangeeta, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed against him. Following the withdrawal, the Chengalpattu family court closed the case on Thursday (Aug 7).
Vijay and Sangeeta were married in 1999 and have two children—a son, Jason Sanjay, and a daughter, Divya Sasha. The petition had been filed earlier at the Chennai family court, during a period when Vijay was actively campaigning in politics before becoming Chief Minister.
The matter had last come up for hearing on June 15, when both sides sought permission for Vijay and Sangeeta to appear online. The court rejected the request for a video-conferencing hearing and adjourned the case to Aug 7.
When the case was taken up again on Aug 7, Vijay’s side sought an adjournment citing the ongoing Assembly session. Sangeeta appeared via video conference and requested that the hearing proceed the same day. The court deferred the hearing to the afternoon and later kept it pending without fixing a date.
Subsequently, when the case was called again, Sangeeta’s counsel informed the court that she was withdrawing the divorce petition. The family court then recorded the withdrawal and declared the case closed.
