Chennai Police have arrested a 62-year-old stock market adviser, identified as Sundar, following a complaint from a young woman working as a newsreader at a private TV channel. He was taken into custody in Bengaluru, Karnataka, according to police.
In her complaint to the Police Commissioner’s office, the woman said she first contacted Sundar by phone seeking employment and later visited his residence in Pattinapakkam after he invited her. She alleged that during the meeting he began speaking in a sexually inappropriate manner, and she left after reiterating that she wanted a job.
The complainant further alleged that on another occasion, when she was asked to come to an office space within his home, she was sexually harassed and he behaved indecently. She said she informed Sundar’s wife, Mangaiyarkarasi, but alleged that the matter was ignored.
According to the complaint, on July 29 he asked her to come again, saying he wanted to apologise for the earlier incident. She alleged that once she arrived, she was locked inside an office room for about three hours, sexually harassed, and threatened with death if she spoke about it.
Police said the petition was forwarded to Ice House Police Station for inquiry, after which the Royapettah Women Police registered a case against Sundar and Mangaiyarkarasi. Sundar was subsequently arrested in Bengaluru.
