Chennai: Minister Rajmohan on Friday questioned the DMK’s position on the constituency delimitation issue, asking why the party was “hiding” from the debate. He also posed a pointed question: if Tamil Nadu’s number of constituencies were reduced, would the DMK accept it?
Speaking to reporters, Rajmohan said his side has opposed the delimitation exercise from the beginning, describing it as a “state issue” linked to state rights. He claimed that refusing to participate in discussions on such a matter reflects a lack of concern.
Rajmohan also rejected suggestions that the issue was being raised to divert attention from the Cauvery matter, saying the river cannot be “diverted” and likening it to a flood in a forest stream.
He further alleged that the DMK and AIADMK staying away from the discussion could be seen as the start of a “new friendship,” and argued that it signals indifference to the state’s welfare.
Meanwhile, Minister Arunraj told reporters in Chennai that his party had participated and supported a DMK-led consultation on delimitation last year. He said people expect the same now, and expressed disappointment over reports that the DMK plans to boycott the current meeting.
