New Delhi: The Union government has released an official mapping update identifying 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh through the Survey of India.
The step comes amid China’s continued practice of referring to Arunachal Pradesh as “Zangnan” in its maps and issuing lists that assign new names to places in the Indian state. In response, India has formally recorded key sites and geographical features with their official Indian names in its authorised maps.
Officials said the move goes beyond routine diplomatic protests and is intended to reinforce India’s sovereignty. The mapped locations include Longju village, along with other war memorials, mountain passes and lakes.
China first issued a list of renamed places in 2017, followed by a second list in 2021 and another in 2023. India has consistently rejected these renaming attempts as baseless and has reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh will always remain an integral part of India.
The Centre said the mapping exercise was carried out in consultation with the Arunachal Pradesh government, with the aim of ensuring accurate identification of these places and improving public awareness of their significance.
