An eight-year-old girl in Chennai reportedly disclosed sexual abuse after watching an awareness sequence on “bad touch” in the film Jananayagan, which she saw with her father.
According to the complaint, the girl’s parents, residents of K.K. Nagar, have been living separately for the past few months due to differences. The 11-year-old son and the eight-year-old daughter are staying with their father.
Police said the mother, who visits the children periodically, would also take them to a house in Kodambakkam where she works as a domestic help. After the film screening, the girl told her father that a man living in that house had sexually assaulted her.
The father lodged a complaint at the Vadapalani Women Police Station. Following an inquiry, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested Shanmugapriyan (50) of Kodambakkam. Further investigation is under way.
