Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a breakfast meeting at his residence in New Delhi for Lok Sabha MPs who have recently joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). During the interaction, he reassured them, saying they need not worry and that he would stand with them.
According to the report, around 45 MPs attended. This included about 20 MPs who left West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and joined the Indian Nationalist Citizens Party in June, as well as six MPs who moved from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction to the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Speaking while dining with the MPs, Modi described Parliament as the “highest temple of democracy” and said continuous shouting and disruptions by opposition parties prevent new MPs from getting opportunities to speak. He called this unfair and stressed that parliamentary proceedings should run smoothly.
The Prime Minister also advised MPs to study Parliament’s history and make use of its documents to prepare for debates. He urged them to work for the development of their respective states, noting that the nation progresses only when states advance.
Modi said the NDA functions like a family and that every alliance party would be given due respect and opportunity. He added that each MP matters to him and that MPs could contact the Prime Minister’s Office at any time for constituency development work, noting he had recently held a similar interaction with newly elected NDA Rajya Sabha members.
