Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi recently invited students and young people to send him questions on Instagram, saying he would try to answer as many as possible.

During the interaction, he was asked about a politician in the BJP whom he likes. Rahul responded by naming former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, a remark that triggered fresh discussion in Punjab’s political circles.

Rahul said he shares a good rapport with Amarinder Singh and described him as “a wonderful person” with strong knowledge of military history. He also greeted him warmly during the exchange.

Amarinder Singh was once a key Congress leader and led the party to a major victory in the 2017 Punjab Assembly election, becoming chief minister for a second term. However, prolonged factionalism in the Punjab Congress strained his relationship with the party leadership.

He resigned as chief minister in 2021 and later quit the Congress, forming the Punjab Lok Congress. The party failed to win any seat in the 2022 Assembly election, after which it merged with the BJP. His wife Preneet Kaur, son Raninder Singh and daughter Jai Inder Kaur have also joined the BJP.
