Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the Central government’s objective is to strengthen Union Territories, highlighting increased support for Puducherry.
Speaking at an event in Puducherry where he presented the President’s Colour Awards to recognise exemplary service by the Puducherry Police, Shah said the Modi government’s long-term vision over the past 12 years has been to improve Union Territories.
He claimed Puducherry has received funding not seen in the last 50 years, and said the Union Territory’s development has been supported with an allocation of Rs 13,762 crore over the past 12 years.
Referring to the Covid-19 pandemic period, Shah said that when information was sought from Union Territories, the Puducherry Police ranked first in serving the public, and he praised their work during the crisis.
The minister reiterated that strengthening Union Territories remains a key focus of the Centre, and pointed to multiple initiatives undertaken for Puducherry under the Modi government.
