Delhi Police have arrested a 44-year-old Indian Air Force Wing Commander for allegedly leaking sensitive military information after being lured through a so-called “honey trap” on social media. Investigators say the case points to a suspected attempt by Pakistan’s intelligence network to obtain Indian defence secrets.
According to the probe, a woman contacted the officer in April through a social media platform, initially posing as a friend before developing a closer relationship. The two later communicated through WhatsApp, during which the woman allegedly sought information related to the Air Force.
Police allege the officer shared photographs and videos linked to Air Force activities, and also sent important military information and documents. After his conduct raised suspicion, senior Air Force officials initiated an internal inquiry and subsequently filed a complaint with Delhi Police.
The officer was arrested on May 30 and booked under the Official Secrets Act. A chargesheet was filed on July 7, following which details of the case became public.
Delhi Police said a forensic review of the officer’s mobile phone indicated the woman was in contact with Pakistani intelligence officials and forwarded the material to them. Investigators also suspect the officer installed a secret application on another officer’s phone on the woman’s instructions, which may have been spyware capable of stealing data and tracking location; the investigation has been intensified. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the accused officer or the woman, nor the exact nature of the documents shared.
