Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (August 9) paid tribute to those who took part in the historic Quit India Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi in 1942 against British colonial rule.
In a message, Modi said the movement’s participants would always inspire Indians. He noted that Gandhi’s leadership and the call of “Quit India” infused fresh energy into the freedom struggle and reflected the people’s unwavering resolve to end colonial rule.
The Quit India Movement is regarded as one of the most significant mass movements that contributed to India’s independence. Large numbers of people united to protest against the British.
The “Quit India” resolution was adopted at the Congress session held in Mumbai on August 8, 1942.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also remembered the freedom fighters who made sacrifices for the nation’s liberation. He said the day of the August Revolution encourages people to place national interest first, adopt swadeshi, build a self-reliant India and work towards a developed India.
