New Delhi: Praveen Chakravarthy, who played a key role in pushing for a Congress alliance with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, is now being spoken of as a potential minister in the state government.
According to the report, Chakravarthy was among those who pressed Rahul Gandhi to extend support to Vijay after TVK’s victory. While he is said to have grown close to Chief Minister Vijay, he is also described as continuing to work as one of Rahul Gandhi’s advisers.
The developments come after Chakravarthy secured a Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu. However, he is reportedly keen to be more directly involved in state politics and believes becoming an MLA could open the door to a cabinet berth. Rahul Gandhi is said to be supportive of this plan.
Chakravarthy holds an engineering degree from a university in Pilani and an MBA from the Wharton School in the US. He has worked with global firms such as IBM and Microsoft, and is described as an economic expert.
The report adds that Chief Minister Vijay is also said to prefer having Chakravarthy in his cabinet. With two Congress members currently serving as ministers, Chakravarthy is reportedly being considered as a replacement for one of them, and is said to be ready to resign his MP post and contest a by-election in a vacant Assembly constituency.
