New Delhi: Senior advocate Harish Salve has called for stricter monitoring of foreign donations entering India, arguing that oversight should be strengthened under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
In an interview to Republic TV, Salve said no foreign donation comes “free” and that donors often have an underlying purpose. He cautioned against efforts that, in his view, seek to impose misleading narratives or divert the country’s development trajectory.
Salve said a sovereign nation cannot afford to be indifferent to foreign contributions without scrutiny, and that India should act with the same seriousness shown by other countries.
He added that the key issue is not merely whether foreign money enters the country, but how it is used once it arrives. He also remarked that avoiding debate has increasingly become a norm in India.
