Chief Minister Vijay on Friday announced that Tamil Nadu will pass a special resolution in the State Assembly opposing constituency delimitation.
The announcement followed an all-party meeting of Members of Parliament convened in Chennai, after which the Chief Minister released a statement reflecting the recommendations made during the discussions.
According to the statement, participants urged MPs to vote against the Union government’s proposed constitutional amendment and the new bill related to delimitation.
The meeting also unanimously decided to move a separate Assembly resolution to permanently safeguard the rights of Tamil Nadu and other southern states.
The statement said delimitation could affect Tamil Nadu’s representation and importance, and called for dropping changes to the number of MPs and constituency boundaries, while maintaining the current status quo. It added that all parties should work together to protect the state’s rights.
