Police in Bengaluru have arrested 105 Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly staying in the city illegally, following a two-day verification drive in parts of Karnataka’s capital.
The checks were carried out under an operation named “Operation Muktha” in the Whitefield and Electronic City divisions. Officials said the police have been conducting frequent inspections across the state to identify illegal immigrants.
During the drive, police verified documents of 1,035 people in Whitefield and found 62 suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. In Electronic City, documents of 1,909 people were checked, leading to 43 detentions.
In total, 2,944 people were screened across the two areas, resulting in 105 arrests. All those detained were handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and further steps, including deportation, will be taken based on information received from the office.
