Chief Minister Vijay on Sunday announced an increase in incentives for farmers cultivating paddy and sugarcane, making the statement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly under Rule 110.
He said farmers invest their physical effort, resources and time in cultivating, harvesting and selling their produce. Despite the state’s current financial constraints, the government has decided to enhance incentives for those growing paddy and sugarcane.
For paddy procurement, he announced that an incentive of Rs 2,750 will be provided for fine varieties, in addition to the minimum support price. The Chief Minister said increasing the paddy incentive by more than Rs 156 within a year is being done for the first time in history.
For the 2025–26 sugarcane crushing season, he noted that the Centre has fixed Rs 3,290.50 per metric tonne for farmers registered with sugar mills and supplying cane. The Tamil Nadu government will provide a special incentive of Rs 709.50 per tonne, taking the effective cane price to Rs 4,000 per tonne.
Vijay said his government would continue to stand with farmers and support agriculture and rural livelihoods.
