Senior functionaries of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have expressed unease over the party leadership allocating key organisational posts to leaders who recently joined from the AIADMK. The appointments, they say, have created anxiety among long-time TVK office-bearers.
According to party sources quoted by TVK functionaries, after TVK’s electoral success, several AIADMK administrators have been joining the party. They claimed that since the party’s formation, 106 leaders from other parties were given “seats”, with 49 serving as MLAs and seven as ministers.
The latest round of appointments has reportedly led to existing district-level responsibilities being reassigned. Former AIADMK minister C. Vijayabaskar has been given two roles in Pudukkottai—district organisational secretary and Pudukkottai West district secretary—prompting questions among insiders about the balance of authority within the district.
Similarly, M.R. Vijayabaskar has been appointed deputy general secretary and Karur district organisational secretary, while Isakki Subbiah has been named Tenkasi district organisational secretary and Tirunelveli East district secretary. TVK functionaries said these changes resulted in the removal of district secretaries Rajagopal and Zakir Hussain.
They also pointed to appointments for Maragatham as deputy general secretary and her husband Kumaravel as Chengalpattu East district secretary, arguing that long-time workers from the Vijay fan-club era were being sidelined. The functionaries warned that the reshuffle could intensify an ongoing “cold war” between leaders who entered from outside and existing MLAs and district secretaries.
