Chennai: As the DMK-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TAVEKA) government under Chief Minister Vijay approaches 100 days in office, the Tamil Nadu government has directed officials to prepare a department-wise list of achievements completed so far.
Vijay’s government came to power after winning 108 seats in the April 23 Assembly election, with support from the Congress, Left parties and VCK. He was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 10, and had stated at the time that corruption would not be tolerated.
Among the measures cited are the release of a WhatsApp number to report bribery and corruption complaints, the formation of the “Singappen” special force, and a waiver of crop loans up to Rs 75,000 in cooperative banks. The government has also announced 200 units of free electricity, shut 717 TASMAC outlets, and taken up renovation of Amma canteens.
Other actions include steps to prevent irregularities in the registration department, action against illegal quarries along with a ban on exporting mineral resources to other states, and the creation of a special team to curb narcotics. A Rs 134-crore special package was announced to promote Kuruvai paddy cultivation, and anti-corruption police conducted raids in government offices.
The government has also said it brought the Jal Jeevan 2.0 scheme after discussions with the Centre, reopened the Srirangam “Keezha Vaasal” that had remained shut for three years, and launched the “Thaymaman Thanga Modhiram” scheme to provide gold to babies born in government hospitals. The 100-day milestone will be completed on August 17, and officials are currently working on the compilation.
