Idols of Hindu deities placed along the banks of the Tamirabarani river in Ambasamudram, Tirunelveli district, were vandalised again, triggering condemnation from Hindu Munnani.
Locals have been worshipping idols of Shiva, Vinayagar and Murugan at the spot for several years. The idols were first damaged by unidentified persons on July 26, and a police complaint was filed.
However, Hindu Munnani said no arrests were made in the earlier case. On Sunday, the idols in the same area were allegedly smashed again, including a peacock mount.
Hindu Munnani state secretary Kutralanathan alleged that prompt action after the first incident could have prevented the repeat vandalism. He demanded that those responsible be arrested immediately and that police protection be provided to worship places in the area.
