A controversy has erupted within TVK after the party appointed the wife of a functionary—who was removed and arrested in a bribery case—to the very same district-level post he previously held.
According to the report, Veerasamy served as the president of Mambakkam panchayat in Chengalpattu district and also as TVK’s Chengalpattu East district joint secretary. He is accused of taking bribes from a contractor named Naveen—₹1 lakh via GPay and ₹30,000 in cash—for work orders and related tasks.
Video clips linked to the alleged bribery circulated widely online, following which TVK took disciplinary action and removed Veerasamy from the party. Police later arrested him and he was remanded to jail.
Days after his removal, TVK issued an official announcement appointing his wife, Hemavathi, as Chengalpattu East district joint secretary. The report notes that she was seen seated beside him in the video when the alleged bribe money was received, leading to sharp criticism and discontent among party members.
