New Delhi: N. Chandrasekaran has resigned as chairman of Tata Sons, in a sudden move that comes ahead of the group’s scheduled general meeting on August 18.
According to the report, the resignation follows administrative differences with Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts. Chandrasekaran, 63, was serving a term that was set to run until February 2027.
The development triggered an immediate market reaction, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) shares slipping by nearly 4% after news of his exit.
Chandrasekaran also serves as chairman of several Tata group companies, including TCS, Tata Motors and Tata Consumer Products. His departure is expected to have significant implications across the conglomerate.
He took charge at Tata Sons in 2017 and has played a key role in overseeing the group’s businesses. Chandrasekaran studied at Coimbatore’s CIT College and later graduated from Trichy REC, and is credited with helping build TCS into a leading company.
