New Delhi: The Union government has sent the proposed amendment to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed scrutiny.
According to the government, the amendment is aimed at ensuring transparency on who provides foreign donations, the purpose behind them, and how such funds are used in India.
Opposition parties, however, protested the Bill and alleged it is against minorities, demanding that it be withdrawn.
Amid the objections, the decision was taken to refer the Bill to a JPC for a comprehensive review.
Union Minister Nityanand Rai moved the resolution for the referral. The committee is to include 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 members from the Rajya Sabha.
