An IndiGo flight arriving from Kolkata faced an engine-related issue moments before landing at Chennai airport, after the aircraft’s left-side engine developed a malfunction, officials said.
The pilot alerted air traffic control, following which the airport declared a full emergency and cleared the aircraft for an immediate landing. Rescue and emergency response teams from multiple departments were placed on standby to handle any contingency.
The flight landed safely at around 11.37 pm. Authorities said there was no damage to the aircraft and no harm to passengers.
All passengers were evacuated soon after landing. The tense situation, which lasted for over half an hour, eased and the emergency status was subsequently withdrawn, officials added.
