A sub-inspector posted at Nallur police station near Paramathi Velur in Namakkal district was arrested on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a farmer.
Police identified the accused as Gengadharan (47), serving as a sub-inspector at the station. The complainant, Sowmiyaraj (30) of Nandhai Salappalayam near Nallur, is a farmer.
According to the complaint, a case was registered at Nallur police station about four months ago following a dispute between Sowmiyaraj and his neighbouring landowner Muthusamy over alleged land encroachment.
Officials said the sub-inspector later called the farmer and allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 to ensure the case was concluded in his favour. Unwilling to pay, the farmer approached the Namakkal anti-corruption police.
Acting on their instructions, the complainant handed over chemically treated currency at the Nallur police station on the evening of August 11. Officers who were lying in wait then arrested the sub-inspector, police said.
