DMK president M.K. Stalin has reportedly advised party MLAs to focus strictly on the subject being debated in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and avoid unnecessary remarks.
The guidance follows a series of heated exchanges during the budget debate. Former minister Panneerselvam made comments comparing the previous DMK government’s style with the current administration, prompting a rebuttal from minister Anand.
Former minister Raghupathi, while speaking, also criticised the state and Union governments beyond the department-specific discussion and alleged that commissions were demanded in the Water Resources and Public Works departments. Minister Anand rejected the allegation and said evidence, if any, should be presented on the floor of the House.
In another instance, DMK MLA Markandeyan, who is facing a case over remarks made at a public meeting in Kovilpatti, offered an explanation in the Assembly, saying he spoke in the heat of emotion and had no intention to hurt the Chief Minister.
Separately, DMK MLA Rajendran criticised Finance Minister Maria Wilson’s speech, leading to a sharp response from her. Former minister Velu later spoke in support of the Finance Minister. After these developments, Stalin is said to have summoned and reprimanded some MLAs at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, reiterating that they should speak only on matters under discussion.
