Rescue operations continued for a third day, but teams on the ground are facing severe challenges as many buildings have been heavily damaged, making access and search efforts difficult.
In the hard-hit city of Cali, rescuers reported a rare moment of relief when a one-and-a-half-year-old child was found alive beneath the debris nearly 48 hours after the quake.
According to the rescue team, a worker heard the child’s sobbing from inside the rubble and asked everyone nearby to remain silent to confirm the sound. The father’s calls for help were also heard, and he was found shielding the child against his chest. After a prolonged effort, both the child and the father were pulled out safely.
