London: UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has appointed Gautam Rangarajan, an Indian-origin Tamil strategist and media executive, to a newly created role in government.
Burnham, who recently took office, has been reshaping his team and administrative set-up. As part of that effort, he has created the post of Expert Adviser for Infrastructure and Process.
Rangarajan has been named to the position and is expected to assume charge this week. He is described as having expertise across corporate planning, media and public service, and broadcasting.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said Rangarajan brings experience in corporate planning and organisational restructuring, and that he will play a key role in driving changes to the UK government’s structures and operations.
Rangarajan has previously worked with the BBC and is said to have around 20 years of experience navigating shifting markets, audiences and technology, including leading large-scale organisational and project changes and negotiating complex policy and financial agreements.
