Singai Ramachandran, who previously held key roles in the AIADMK including IT wing head, zonal secretary and student wing secretary, has joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He had resigned from the AIADMK last month.
In a social media post, Ramachandran said he met Chief Minister Vijay in person and enrolled in TVK in his presence, seeking support and blessings from the public.
Soon after his switch, AIADMK supporters began circulating a video from 2016 in which he meets late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, receives her blessings and tells her he would remain loyal “till the end,” similar to his father. In the clip, Jayalalithaa is seen recognising him as the son of Singai Govindaraj and expressing confidence in his loyalty.
Ramachandran’s father Govindaraj served as the Singanallur MLA during Jayalalithaa’s first term (1991–1996), a background that helped Ramachandran gain prominence within the party. The report also notes that he was given an opportunity to contest the Lok Sabha election from Coimbatore, including against BJP’s Annamalai.
The move has reportedly angered sections of AIADMK cadres, who have criticised him online while sharing the old video. Separately, reports claim that the IIM Ahmedabad graduate was assured an important role in the TVK government, which is said to have influenced his decision to join.
