UN names Al-Qaeda affiliate in Red Fort blast
The UN Security Council has said the 2025 car bomb attack near Delhi’s Red Fort was carried out by Al-Qaeda’s Indian Subcontinent wing (AQIS). The statement comes as Indian agencies continue investigations into the incident.
The blast, reported to have taken place on November 10 last year, killed 15 people, including the attacker identified as Dr Umar Nabi. Authorities later arrested 10 people, including several doctors described as associates of Umar Nabi.
Investigators found that Umar Nabi and two arrested doctors — Musammil Shakeel and Shaheen Shahid — had worked at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. Following this, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches and inquiries linked to the institution.
The probe also uncovered alleged financial irregularities at the university, including claims of illegal fee collection and a reported Rs 493 crore fraud. The Enforcement Directorate arrested vice-chancellor Javad Ahmed Siddiqui and froze assets worth about Rs 140 crore linked to the university administration.
In the terror case, the NIA has filed a chargesheet running to about 7,500 pages against 11 accused. The UN report also flagged concerns over rising clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
