Madurai: Organisers of Annamalai’s new outfit, ‘We The Leaders’, say a section of youth members has grown frustrated, alleging that the leader has moved away from the aggressive political style that once drew them to him.
After quitting the BJP, Annamalai launched the organisation and has been attracting people from different backgrounds. However, district-level office-bearers have not been formally announced yet, even as the group held its first conference in Pollachi.
Preparations are now under way for a conference in Thoothukudi. According to organisers, consultations led by Annamalai to plan the event have largely featured seniors and those who came from the BJP, with fewer youth participants seen.
This has led to resentment among young members, who claim they joined due to Annamalai’s personal appeal but now feel overlooked. Organisers say several have gone quiet, some have even changed their profile pictures, and a few are considering leaving.
They also complain that the Annamalai who once gave fiery daily interviews during his time in the Tamil Nadu BJP is no longer visible, adding to the disappointment within the youth wing of the organisation.
