A family in Rajapalayam has received Rs 5 lakh as accident insurance after the death of a long-time Dinamalar reader, linked to the newspaper’s annual subscription scheme.

The deceased, Palaniyappan (69) of Vishnu Nagar in Virudhunagar district’s Rajapalayam, was a retired Tamil teacher. He had paid Rs 2,499 on December 1 for Dinamalar’s annual subscription and enrolled in an insurance plan valued at Rs 11 lakh.

On the night of May 28, he was travelling with his wife on a two-wheeler from TB Mills Road in Rajapalayam when a mini-van allegedly collided with them, causing serious injuries. He was admitted to a private hospital in Madurai, where he later died.

Following the incident, his son, Pandi Selvan, contacted officials of United India Insurance in Rajapalayam. After verifying the documents, the insurer disbursed Rs 5 lakh to Palaniyappan’s family.

Palaniyappan is survived by his wife, daughter and son. His son expressed gratitude for receiving the insurance amount through the Dinamalar subscription benefit.
