A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court challenging the state’s decision to provide government jobs on compassionate grounds to families affected by a fatal crowd incident in Karur.

According to the case details, 31 family members of people who died after getting caught in a crowd crush during a TVK campaign meeting in Karur were given government employment last month by Chief Minister Vijay.

The petition questions the legality and basis of these appointments. During the hearing, the judges raised a series of pointed queries, with observations that politics should not be mixed with tragedy.

The matter was heard by Justices C.V. Karthikeyan and R. Sakthivel at the Madurai Bench. Further proceedings are awaited.
