Chennai: Tamil Nadu Minister Nirmal Kumar on Thursday alleged that the DMK, which he said earlier maintained an “indirect” understanding with the BJP, has now shifted to a direct alliance.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, the minister said the Tamil Nadu government’s case related to Cauvery river water rights is listed for hearing in the Supreme Court on Monday. He added that, under Chief Minister Vijay’s guidance, the state is moving quickly to take all lawful steps to secure Tamil Nadu’s due share of water.
Nirmal Kumar said the government would pursue every legal measure to uphold Tamil interests. As part of his political charge, he referred to remarks attributed to DMK MLA Anita Radhakrishnan that Trichy Siva would soon become a Union minister, claiming this indicated that talks had progressed to the “next stage.”
He also pointed to DMK MP Kanimozhi attending a tea reception hosted by Speaker Om Birla as evidence of a direct alignment with the BJP. The minister further alleged that the DMK was prepared for such an arrangement to protect itself in matters related to family assets and cases.
In the same interaction, he said strict action is being taken against narcotics in Tamil Nadu and claimed that property tax has not been increased anywhere in the state, but is being regularised.
