A Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) commercial inspector was arrested by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) wing near Tenkasi for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 to provide a new power connection.
According to officials, Kaliraj (32) of Thiruvengadam in Tenkasi district had renovated an old house registered in his father Raja’s name and approached the electricity board office seeking a fresh service connection.
When he contacted commercial inspector Karuppasamy (53), the official allegedly asked for Rs 2,000 as illegal gratification to process the connection. Kaliraj, unwilling to pay, lodged a complaint with the DVAC.
Following DVAC instructions, Kaliraj handed over chemically treated currency notes amounting to Rs 2,000. The inspector was caught while receiving the money by a team led by DSP Paul Sudar, and was taken into custody.
After the arrest, the DVAC team conducted a search at the inspector’s residence, officials said.
