Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday said the state has drawn investments of more than Rs 1 lakh crore since the DMK-led administration under Chief Minister Vijay assumed office.
In a statement, the Chief Minister’s Office highlighted outcomes from an investors’ meet held in Chennai. It said 97 memoranda of understanding were signed in the Chief Minister’s presence, involving proposed investments of Rs 67,452 crore and an estimated 1,06,998 jobs.
The statement added that the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for eight projects worth Rs 4,476 crore, expected to generate 5,074 jobs. He also inaugurated five projects with investments of Rs 2,676 crore and an estimated 1,550 jobs.
It further said projects and new buildings of SIPCOT, TIDCO, the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd, and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Housing entity—together costing Rs 777.74 crore—were inaugurated. The Chief Minister also issued appointment orders to 20 selected candidates across nine organisations, the statement said.
