Several office-bearers who had moved from the BJP to Annamalai-led ‘We The Leaders’ have begun returning to the BJP, according to party sources.
Annamalai, who earlier served as the Tamil Nadu BJP president, had built a strong support base within and outside the party through his aggressive political style. After the Assembly election, he quit the BJP following internal dissatisfaction and launched ‘We The Leaders’.
Many BJP functionaries had followed him into the new organisation out of loyalty. However, they have now expressed discontent, saying Annamalai has shifted away from his earlier combative politics and is currently maintaining a quieter political approach.
Sources said those who joined him were also unhappy that no responsibilities were assigned to them, prompting a return to the BJP.
In Tirunelveli, former district office-bearers including Venkatesh (ex-secretary, BJP OBC wing), Pachimuthu and Govindarajan (former district secretaries of the ‘Protocol’ division), and former branch president Raji rejoined the BJP in the presence of Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Wednesday.
