Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India will become a developed nation by 2047, marking 100 years of Independence. He made the remarks after hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi on Independence Day.
In his address, Modi paid tribute to freedom fighters and martyrs, saying the spirit of “Vande Mataram” resonates in every Indian’s heart and that the national flag is flying at homes across the country. He described the day as a significant moment in India’s history.
The Prime Minister urged Indians to dream big, arguing that ambitious goals are essential to reach new heights. He said efforts over the past 12 years have put India on a growth path and that the country’s progress cannot be stopped, adding that the ‘Make in India’ initiative has boosted domestic production.
Modi said the world is closely watching India’s rise, noting that the country has moved from being seen among weaker economies to becoming a major economic force through people’s efforts. He called on youth to step forward and stressed self-reliance, urging citizens to prioritise local products and support swadeshi goods.
He also announced seven key initiatives: training one crore youth in artificial intelligence within the next year; free online coaching for competitive exams; modernised training to meet defence sector needs; a nationwide drive to identify sports talent among children aged 5–15 in villages and cities; commissioning 7–8 new semiconductor manufacturing units in the next 1–2 years; targeting 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047 with plans to set up five new reactors in 6–7 years; and increasing the country’s manufacturing capacity.
