Chennai: Tamil Nadu Power Minister Nirmal Kumar has alleged that what he described as an earlier “indirect alliance” between the DMK and the BJP has now evolved into a direct alliance.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said the Supreme Court will hear the Tamil Nadu government’s petition related to the Cauvery issue on Monday. He also questioned which AIADMK faction had staged protests over farmers’ issues.
Nirmal Kumar referred to political statements made in recent days, including a remark attributed to former DMK minister Anita Radhakrishnan that DMK MP Siva would soon become a Union minister. He also cited BJP leader Vanathi’s comment that politics has no permanent enemies or friends.
He further questioned DMK MP Kanimozhi’s explanation about not attending a tea meeting hosted by the Lok Sabha Speaker, saying she had gone only to submit a petition regarding seating arrangements. The minister also claimed the DMK has not clearly stated it would vote against a constituency delimitation bill in Parliament.
In the same interaction, he said investors are now looking to Tamil Nadu, and commented on other issues including a murder in Coimbatore allegedly linked to a junior-senior clash among private college students. He also said Chennai’s property tax has not been increased, but steps are being taken to revalue properties.
