New Delhi: Reliance and Rolls-Royce have entered into a partnership to produce engines in India for an advanced, domestically built fifth-generation fighter aircraft.
The availability of spare engines has long been a major challenge for fighter aircraft manufacturing in the country, with India often having to rely on overseas sources.
In a joint statement, the companies said they are exploring the creation of an aerospace gas-turbine hub in India. The proposed centre would cover design, development, manufacturing, testing and integration, with a focus on ensuring engine quality and long-term maintenance support.
The collaboration is expected to combine Rolls-Royce’s experience in aircraft engine technology with Reliance’s strengths in technology, manufacturing and project execution. The key objective, the statement added, is to build the engine for the fifth-generation fighter programme within India.
