Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday said Bihar’s successful Intensive Revision of electoral rolls (SIR) paved the way for a higher voter turnout in the state’s 2025 Assembly elections.
Speaking at an election awareness seminar in Patna during his two-day visit to Bihar, the CEC said the country’s “best” SIR exercise began in Bihar. He noted that around 70 lakh names were removed from the voter list as part of the revision.
Gyanesh Kumar said the 2025 Assembly election in Bihar was conducted peacefully and saw the highest turnout in the state’s post-Independence history. He also claimed the turnout was higher than that recorded in general elections in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Japan.
He added that both men and women turned out in large numbers, and that the voting percentage broke previous records in the state.
According to the details cited, the Assembly election held in November last year recorded a turnout of 67.25%, the highest in Bihar since Independence.
