A Dinamalar report has criticised Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, alleging that he undermined the dignity expected of his constitutional role during a Congress party programme.
According to the report, Rahul Gandhi and former MP Sandeep Dikshit were on stage when Gandhi acted out a skit to mock Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meetings with foreign leaders. The report says Gandhi ran up to Dikshit and hugged him, remarking that this was “Modi’s diplomacy.”
The report adds that Dikshit brought up Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s name, and that Gandhi responded with a quip and a smile, prompting laughter from those present. Dinamalar argues that the exchange crossed “civilised limits” and caused shock among political circles as well as officials and the public.
It further states that handshakes and hugs between leaders are long-standing diplomatic practice and questions why such gestures are being ridiculed. The report also notes that Congress leaders—from Jawaharlal Nehru onwards—have themselves been photographed embracing foreign leaders, and claims the criticism is selectively aimed at Modi.
Concluding sharply, the report says the episode reflects political frustration rather than legitimate criticism, and asserts that “time and history” will not forgive such conduct.
