Independence Day celebrations at the Madras High Court in Chennai began with Tamil Thai Vazhthu and Vande Mataram, before the National Flag was hoisted by Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari.
The sequence followed a revised circular issued by Registrar Deepti Arivunidhi. It stated that the state song would be sung first, followed by Vande Mataram, then the flag hoisting, and the National Anthem after the hoisting.
The Registrar noted that the instructions were issued in line with guidance from the Union government, and were communicated to the Principal Seat, the Madurai Bench, subordinate courts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and judicial training centres.
During the event, the Chief Justice received a ceremonial guard of honour from the CISF, which provides security at the High Court. CISF personnel also presented demonstrations as part of the celebrations.
The Chief Justice presented medals and certificates to High Court staff, police officials and personnel, and CISF members for notable service. Judges and former judges, Tamil Nadu Law Minister Nirmal Kumar, DGP Mahesh Kumar Agarwal, Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj, Advocate General Vijay Narayan, State Public Prosecutor John Sathyan, and representatives of advocates’ associations were among those present.
