Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Independence Day address to place students and young people at the heart of a series of new announcements, including free competitive-exam coaching, artificial intelligence training and a nationwide sports talent identification drive.
The focus comes amid protests and public anger over alleged exam irregularities, including issues linked to the NEET question paper leak. Modi said youth will play a key role in building a developed India by 2047.
He announced a plan to train 1 crore young people in artificial intelligence over the next year. To spot sporting potential early, he also unveiled a countrywide talent search for children aged 5 to 15.
Expressing concern over rising drug use, the Prime Minister urged students and youth to work towards the goal of a “drug-free India”. He also said aspirants preparing for competitive examinations would be offered free online coaching, and noted that he repeatedly referred to “youth” in the speech.
