Salem: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday criticised the ruling TVK government, alleging that its first 100 days in office were marked by publicity rather than performance.
Speaking to reporters at Nedunchalai Nagar in Salem, Palaniswami warned that construction of the Mekedatu dam could trigger drinking water scarcity in 20 districts of Tamil Nadu. He said the ongoing kuruvai cultivation had already been affected and claimed that samba cultivation could be hit next.
He also referred to the situation in Karnataka, stating that surplus water was being released as the Kabini reservoir had filled up. Despite these developments, he alleged that the TVK government led by Chief Minister Vijay showed little concern and lacked the capacity to act.
Palaniswami further accused the government of coming to power on “false promises” and then “deceiving” people through social media “reels”. He claimed the administration had not introduced new schemes and was merely renaming earlier AIADMK and DMK initiatives by adding the word “Vetri” as a prefix.
He also took aim at the Chief Minister’s accessibility, alleging that once Vijay returned home around 5 pm, he could not be seen until the next morning. He added that the Assembly, once known for intellectual debate, was now resembling a “cinema Assembly,” he said.
