Union minister Kiren Rijiju has accused Opposition parties of misrepresenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks made during the 80th Independence Day address from the Red Fort in New Delhi.

In his speech after hoisting the national flag, Modi said that while armed Naxalites may have been eliminated, the country must identify and isolate “mental Naxals” living across different regions.

The Congress has alleged that the Prime Minister was referring to Opposition parties as “mental Naxals”. Responding to the charge, Rijiju posted a clarification on X.

Rijiju said the Prime Minister’s comment was aimed only at those who support Maoists and reject the Indian Constitution, those who stand with separatists and back Article 370, and those who attempt to cut off the “chicken neck” corridor to separate the North-East from India.
