Southern Railway earned revenue of Rs 13,778 crore in the 2025-26 financial year, its General Manager S. P. Parav Rao said in Chennai.

Speaking after hoisting the national flag at an Independence Day function held at Perambur, he said the revenue was 8.84% higher than the previous year.

He added that up to July in the current financial year, revenue has grown by 6% compared with the same period last year. During the last financial year, Southern Railway served 76.76 crore passengers, marking a 4.7% increase year-on-year.

On the energy front, the zone generated 62.30 lakh units of electricity through solar power plants and 2.80 crore units through windmills, resulting in savings of Rs 25 crore. It also earned Rs 539 crore by selling scrap and unusable materials, exceeding the target set by the Railway Board.
