DMK president M K Stalin on Sunday urged the Tamil Nadu government not to remain silent over the reported shooting deaths of three Tamils in a forest area in Karnataka, and to formally register its protest with the Karnataka government.
In a statement, Stalin said the incident—allegedly involving Karnataka forest department personnel—was shocking and amounted to a grave act showing disregard for human life. He called for strong condemnation of the killings.
Stalin alleged there appeared to be attempts to shield those responsible. He demanded that the case be registered as a murder case and sought a transparent, impartial judicial inquiry to ensure those behind the incident are punished.
He also asked the Tamil Nadu government to secure appropriate compensation for the bereaved families and take steps to ensure government employment for them. Drawing a parallel with the Mekedatu issue, he said the state should not keep quiet on this matter either.
