Chief Minister Vijay on Tuesday announced an additional waiver of crop loans, speaking in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Referring to the state’s financial strain, he said his government came to power amid a severe fiscal crunch, but moved quickly to reduce the debt burden on farmers.

He recalled that within 15 days of assuming office, the government had announced a crop loan waiver on May 25 as a measure aimed at easing farmers’ liabilities.

The Chief Minister’s latest statement in the House indicated that the waiver will be expanded further, with details presented as part of the Assembly discussion.
