Former ISRO leader and Tamil Nadu government curriculum advisory committee chair Mayilsamy Annadurai on Saturday welcomed the Centre’s decision to allow private sector participation in the space sector.

Speaking to reporters in Pudukkottai, he noted that ISRO has been successfully launching a range of satellites and is now working towards sending humans to space.

He added that work is under way to begin manufacturing rocket spare parts at Kulasekarapattinam. Until now, space research and rocket manufacturing were largely handled by the Union government and related agencies, but the new policy enables private contribution as well.

Annadurai also spoke about education reforms, saying efforts are being made to develop students’ proficiency in both Tamil and English. With a new curriculum being prepared, teachers are being trained, and further steps are expected to help Tamil Nadu students perform better in competitive examinations.
