The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will resume sittings today, beginning the debate on demand for grants for various government departments.

The first Budget Session after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam came to power began on August 5. Finance Minister Mariyavilson presented the 2026–27 general budget, followed the next morning by Agriculture Minister Vinoth’s agriculture budget.

Debate on both budgets was held from August 7 to 11, during which opposition parties raised several allegations, including that election promises were not reflected in the budget. On August 12, Ministers Mariyavilson and Vinoth responded to the opposition’s criticisms.

The House did not meet from August 13 until yesterday due to government holidays and other reasons. After a four-day break, the Assembly meets today to take up grants discussions.

On the first day, demands for grants for the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and the Medical and Public Welfare Department will be discussed. MLAs from the ruling and opposition sides are expected to speak, after which Ministers Sengottaiyan and Arunraj will reply and make key announcements for their departments. As previously announced, Social Welfare Minister Jagatheeswari will handle files related to the Differently Abled Welfare Department, while School Education Minister Rajmohan will handle files of the Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply Department—making it likely they may respond during grants debates for those departments as well.
